Wood Pantry Shelves System

White Pantry Shelving

Adding or changing the wood pantry shelves provides a good introduction to the world of do-it-yourself home projects. Shelves themselves have a simple structure, so the project is not threatening.  Set aside an afternoon for this project. It will probably take less time, but it is best to make room for mistakes and make-overs.

Instructions

Measure the width of your pantry, using your tape measure. Cut a wooden mold and your plank to match the width of your wood pantry shelves. Cut two more wooden strips to a length of 6 inches each. Cover plank with shelf paper. You can choose to cover only one side and edge, or insert it completely. In either case, there is no need to cover the ends of the plank.

Set the long strip against the back wall of your pantry. Make sure it is level, and then nail it in place with a nail for each wall stud it intersects. Set 6-inch straps in place, adjacent to long strip. Set the plank in place, resting on your wooden moldings. If you have used shelf paper to only one side and edge, arrange it with the paper side up and the shimmering edge facing out. Repeat steps 2 through 7 to make as many more shelves as you need.
